To Our Parkside Community,
It is a painful struggle to process the events unfolding over the past days in our city and in our country. The all too familiar feeling of tragic despair, in the face of repeated examples of the injustice, bigotry, and racism faced by people of color reflected in disproportionate poverty, mortality rates, overrepresentation in the criminal justice system, and systematic societal oppression lie heavy in our hearts and minds.
We have to believe that somehow, we can change the world, one child at a time. Far from perfect, our community is committed to addressing social justice, diversity, and equality in ways that reflect our core values -- that every person is unique and special, and celebrated for their differences. Now and always, we will continue to work together to address ignorance and racism. We will problem solve together to support developmentally appropriate responsiveness for our students as we individually and together mourn the poor health, signs of hatred, and political divisiveness we see across our nation. We stand in solidarity with our families, staff and friends of color in grief. We ask you to stand in solidarity with us, as a community of people who care, who love, and who are devoted to making this world a better place for our children and ourselves.
