Students Met Vivian Warfield
On Friday, Classes 5-4, 5-2, and 4-4 enjoyed a special presentation through Project Dorot's "Pearls of Wisdom" Program. Dorot's "Pearls" are elderly individuals who go into schools to share a story from their lives. In our second year of partnership with Dorot, Friday morning our children had a chance to meet Vivian Warfield, a vibrant woman with a passion for percussive instruments. Of African American and Native American descent, Vivian told the children about her lifelong love of percussion instruments, which she only seriously started pursuing after her daughter moved to Paris to attend graduate school. She brought a Shakere, her favorite instrument, explained how it was made, and played it for our very interested students. Children then had the opportunity to ask questions and even sing a song accompanied by her instrument. A lovely time was had by all!
