Keeping in touch with our graduates and their families means so much to all of us at Parkside. To see how our alumni have grown and to celebrate all they have achieved is what helps motivate us to continue the work we do for our current students. Hi, my name is Maude Lehmann, I was at Parkside from 2010 to 2015. I was then at Summit from 2015 to 2018. And now I’m at the High School of Art & Design in the major of cartooning, I’ll be graduating from there next week and then in August I’ll be starting at Vassar College. I’m so honored to be speaking to you all today on the day of your graduation, Parkside is a really special school.
Here is some of the latest news we’ve hear from our wonderful alumni. Owen Barbagallo ’16 qualified for the National Geographics Geography Bee, Jack Rubin ’09 is finishing his Freshman year at Pace University, Armand Klisivitch ’08 has been busy writing for ThePuckAuthority.com, and more!
Last week we had the pleasure of catching up with former Parkside parents at a cocktail party hosted by Elli and David Basner, whose son Ben graduated from Parkside in 2014. This Alumni Parent Cocktail Party has become an annual tradition, and is a very special opportunity for us to hear about the many paths our alumni have taken, and the immense impact Parkside has had in the lives of our students and their families.
This summer Parkside is undergoing some work to repair the beautiful facades of our two buildings. Contractors are cleaning, repairing and re pointing the bricks, and have removed a number of the terra cotta elements that will be refurbished or replaced.
The work prompted us to look back at a 1996 article in The New York Times that gives a wonderful perspective about the history of our little piece of the Upper West Side. Parkside occupies #48 and #50 West 74th Street.
Andrew Isaacson ‘11 gave the keynote address at the 2019 Graduation and Achievement Ceremony on June 19. His speech was heartfelt and deliberate, straightforward, and the perfect summation of how Parkside prepares students to take challenges head on, to advocate for themselves, and to believe in their future.
